retired x-ray equipment

Have you ever wondered….

What happens to my old x-ray equipment?  I hope it doesn’t get hauled straight to a landfill.

Electromek takes pride in supporting x-ray equipment in Missouri and Illinois for nearly 50 years.  We have a track record of maintaining equipment through and often beyond the manufacture’s End of Support announcements.  But eventually all equipment will meet its fate of needing to be retired and decommissioned.  A significant amount of material goes into radiographic equipment, and we are frequently called upon to deinstall and remove that equipment.

Electromek’s warehouse supervisor and our team of support personnel take time to separate a majority, if not all, of the decommissioned equipment we remove from medical facilities.  Systems are hauled to our office in Troy, IL where we divide components into different bins before recycling and disposing.

Batteries and scrap metals are separated

Printed Circuit Boards and scrap wires are also recycled

Larger pieces of metal / iron are hauled to a scrap yard to be recycled.

The X-Ray Tube

Oil is drained from older tubes and recycled before the tube is sent to a recycling center where they extract the lead and copper wiring. Below is a retired x-ray tube we keep on display in our office.

Sometimes we keep interesting artifacts or pieces or history. One example is the Picker emblem below, which came from x-ray unit that was over 50 years old at the time of scrapping.

Conclusion:

Electromek continues to contribute to a healthier and safer society, not only in the products we offer, but in our corporate culture where responsible conduct permeates everything we do.
